What is Indian Head Massage?

An Indian Head Massage is a deeply relaxing treatment which may relieve tension headaches, calm frayed nerves and improve the quality and duration of your night’s sleep. It may also relieve sinusitis and the frequency and intensity of migraines and is said to promote hair growth and a healthy scalp.

It is a popular choice amongst pregnant women looking to avoid taking pain medication for headaches and because of its relaxation benefits.

Treatment

Traditionally Oil is poured through the hair when starting I.H.M but in my experience most people do not like oil in their hair so this is often omitted. Please let the therapist know before treatment which you prefer. To carry out work on the back, it is preferred that tops are removed for comfort. Tops can be left on, but the experience of rubbing through clothes does not always feel as pleasant and can be irritating.

The treatment involves massage and the stimulation of pressure points on the upper back, upper arms, neck, head and face, ending with  Chakra energy balancing.

Different massage techniques are used throughout the treatment and these vary between stimulating movements and soothing movements.
